Murano Glass Factory Tour

The first evidence of glass production in the lagoon dates back to the 6th century AD, but over the centuries the activities stabilized between RivoAlto (Rialto) and Dorsoduro! The Doge, all the councilors, given the large economic contribution given by glass, more like tools than sought-after objects of today...

The fascinating history of Murano glass was born in 1291, when it was decided that the glassworks of Venice should be moved to the island located at our departure!! We would have the cemetery of Venice in front of us, where we will circumnavigate it, arriving at our destination.
This decision, which soon proved to be important for the inhabitants of the island of Murano, was taken because the ovens in the workshops in Venice were the main cause of serious fires but it is said that, in order to prevent the masters from spreading their arts, a third parties unrelated to Venice, it was decided to dedicate the current island of Murano for this purpose.

Jealous of the fame they had acquired, Venice forced the master glassmakers to live on the island and prevented them from leaving it without special permission.
There were crises in production over the centuries, the last of which, today, with the soaring cost of gas, raw materials, and the increasingly difficult housing in Venice!!

The factory that I will take you to see is one of the three most important and famous, with a family dedicated for generations to passing down this increasingly rare art.
A Stunning Gallery, the entire main floor of the building, which below houses the ovens and the masters, houses unique works, pieces for all tastes and some rarities that make you hold your breath just to admire them.
